Salem HISTORY

Salem comes alive during the Halloween season as an epicenter for witchy celebrations and ghost tours, but the historic architecture makes this town the perfect place to call home year round.  Salem was founded in 1626 by Roger Conant and a group of immigrants from Cape Ann. At first the settlement was named Naumkeag, but the settlers preferred to call it Salem, derived from the Hebrew word for peace. In 1628, they were joined by another group, led by John Endecott, from the Massachusetts Bay Colony.  The infamous history of Salem as the location of the Salem Witch Trials provides the historic gem of the Witch House, beyond the trials Salem is also home to Seven Gables, made famous by Nathaniel Hawthrone novel of the same name. After wandering through the charming downtown streets of Salem head out to Palmer Point for a walk by the beach and some fresh sea air
